Bears inside receiver Tevin Reese is taking advantage of his opportunity to see the field early. Read more for FREE inside!
freshman wide receiver
has seen a lot in his only two collegiate football games. In the first 2 games, the 5’10” 160-pound inside receiver has recorded 4 receptions for 38 yards. The stats seem modest, but the former Temple High School speed-demon is trying to soak in as much as he can.
“It was flowing real good [after Week 2’s game]. The first game was kind of tough,” Reese said after Baylor defeated
34-6. “What I did this week was just slow everything down in my mind before it happened. It is just good to get one more game under my belt.”
Baylor defeated the Sam Houston State Bearkats in Week 1, and Reese recorded 1 catch for 15 yards in his college debut. However, the young pass-catcher also dropped a sure-fire touchdown pass that bounced off his facemask.
“Yes, you have got to live with some plays and forget about some,” Reese explained. “That one I forgot about, and I have moved on to the next one.”
With an injury to starting inside receiver
in Week 2, Reese saw a dramatic increase in playing time. With more playing time came more targets, and the Bears young receiver hauled in 3 catches for 23 yards. Reese is gaining a better understanding of the game with the increased workload.
“It means a lot. You know, you get to get a feel for a lot of different things. I got a feel for Robert [Griffin III] because last game I didn’t get a lot of plays, but this week I did. So, I just took advantage of it, and I got a feel for the game itself.”
Although small in stature, Reese brings a level of athleticism that fits in well with Baylor’s talented wide receivers. Reese holds Temple High School records in the triple jump, long jump, and 300-meter hurdles. As a junior, he earned a bronze medal in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 37.65 seconds. But is he the fastest receiver on the team?
“I can’t really say that. I will let other people judge that,” Reese said jokingly. “We have got a lot of fast people, you know, all the receivers have a lot of speed.”
The Bears will get their first true test of the season as they head to Fort Worth to take on the #4-ranked TCU Horned Frogs this Saturday.
