Briles Brings in Bennett
Phil Bennett
Posted Jan 7, 2011

After 3 years, Coach Art Briles felt his coaching staff needed a change. He turned to one of the more experienced and respected coaches on the market.

As reported and discussed yesterday in the premium section of, and as officially announced today by Baylor University, Phil Bennett will serve as Baylor's next defensive coordinator.

Phil Bennett is a name most in the Big 12 are familiar with, having served on staffs at Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Iowa State. In addition, Bennett was the head coach at SMU from 2002 to 2007, and was on staff at TCU at 2 different points in his career. Now, after leading the Pitt defense the last several years in the Big East, Phil Bennett has accepted a job offer from Baylor's Head Coach Art Briles - to come lead Baylor's unit.

The Bears have long struggled with explosive offenses in the Big 12, and Coach Briles hopes Bennett is just the man to turn the tables starting next season.
