It was a thriller in Waco as the Baylor Bears (14-6, 4-3) came back to beat the Colorado Buffaloes (14-8. 3-4) 70-66 in Waco. The Bears trailed by as many as 17 points in the game, but came back in the final minutes to pull ahead.
The first half of the game for the Bears looked eerily similar to their performance Monday night against
Kansas State
. Six minutes into the game, the Bears were trailing by a score of 12-2 until LaceDarius Dunn hit a three-pointer to make it a seven point game. The first half was littered with
Baylor
turnovers and missed opportunities, leading to a vocal and frustrated crowd. By halftime the Bears had only been able to score 21 points, going into the break trailing by 14.
Whatever Scott Drew said during the break must have been effective, with the Bears going on a 9-2 run to open the second half. Baylor proceeded to narrow the gap to 44-42, but the Buffs were able to widen the gap once again with 11:35 remaining. For the next 8 minutes the two teams would trade blows, with Baylor slowly chipping away at the lead. Finally, with just under 3 minutes remaining, Dunn put the Bears up 58-57.
A.J. Walton
connected for three on the next possession, giving the Bears a 4 point lead. As Baylor began to pull away,
Colorado
had no choice but to foul. Luckily for Baylor, they had no choice to foul Dunn, who hit 6 free throws in the final 17 seconds.
Dunn led the Bears in scoring with 26 points on the day. Freshman
Perry Jones
added in 14 and
Quincy Acy
came in with 13 off the bench. The Bears once again struggled taking care of the ball, committing 18 turnovers in the game. As ugly as it was, the Bears showed a lot of heart in a game where it looked like they were completely out of it.
The Bears head to Norman, where they'll face off with the struggling
Oklahoma
Sooners on Tuesday at 6:00.
