The LSU Tigers got some huge news on Thursday afternoon. Five-star Jarell Martin made the decision to stay home and pick the Tigers after an intense recruitment took place for the No. 13 overall prospect.
During the recruitment of Martin LSU was given a major run for their money by Alabama, UCLA, St. John’s, Texas A&M, Louisville and others, but at end the of the day home field advantage won out as Martin announced his commitment to the Tigers at a press conference at his school.
It looked like for all the world that Martin was going to wait for the spring to sign, but after a significant recruiting effort from Johnny Jones and his staff, Martin decided that he knew he wanted to be a Tiger and decided to end the process early.
At 6-foot-8, Martin is one of the most unique talents in the class. He is a very good athlete, can make shots from the outside, has the ability to score off the dribble, and is comfortable inside around the post players.
Now by adding the five-star talent in Martin, LSU has a huge recruiting class to build on. Martin along with four-star prospects Tim Quarterman and Jordan Mickey give the Tigers three solid high school stars to go with junior college recruits Deng Deng and John Odoh.
The five man class now ranks No. 4 in the 2013 Scout.com team rankings.
