Colvin announces return to OU

OU cornerback Aaron Colvin

NORMAN, Okla. — The Sooners' Big 12 Championship hopes for the 2013 season just got a tremendous lift; cornerback Aaron Colvin is returning for his fourth and final year as a Sooner.

"I still have unfinished business at Oklahoma," Colvin said. "I'm excited for the opportunity to be back on the field with my teammates in 2013. There are team and individual goals that I'd still like to accomplish at OU."

No question his head coach, Bob Stoops, is excited about the decision.

"I am pleased that Aaron has come to this decision and I believe it's the right one for him," Stoops said. "I believe he has an opportunity to become one of the premier defensive players in the Big 12 and in the country. Hopefully, he will continue to work hard to reach that potential and help us achieve our team's goals."

Colvin was certainly one of the premier defenders this season, as evidenced by his AP and Coaches First Team All-Big 12 selection.

The 6-foot, 181-pound elite cover corner led the team with 11 passes broken up and was second with his four interceptions.

Colvin recorded 61 tackles, 47 of those unassisted.

He has seen action in 39 games and started 26, doing so in all 13 at the cornerback position in 2012.

The previous season he started 12 games at strong safety before moving outside once new and returning defensive coordinator Mike Stoops rejoined the staff.

His return will shore up a defense that loses all but three starters, including Colvin.

Free safety Tony Jefferson and linebacker Tom Wort elected to forgo their final seasons as a Sooner.
