Hammad Gets the One

Rami Hammad

Irving (Texas) High offensive lineman Rami Hammad gets the offer he was dreaming about and he quickly accepted it, committing to Texas on Wednesday.

Rami Hammad, a 6-foot-5, 320-pound offensive guard made a commitment to Oklahoma State this summer and then he switched to Baylor in November.

Now Texas has won the race for his commitment, as Hammad announced the latest turn in his recruitment Wednesday.

After starring in the Semper Fi All-American Bowl earlier this month, things got interesting once again and the national offers and interest started flying in -- and Hammad opened his eyes to the interest, stating that he "was looking in to all of his new offers."

But one offer that quickly grabbed his attention was from the Texas Longhorns, a school he grew up dreaming about playing for.

This weekend he took an official visit to Austin to see the Horns program, where he got the offer he was wanting.

He made it official and committed to Texas on Wednesday, wasting little time in accepting the newly offered scholarship.

"I committed this weekend to UT!" Hammad said.

"Really, man Texas is my dream offer. It is the one that I have wanted ever since I was a little kid, I grew up wanting to play for them.

"It is just a blessing and I would not have been able to get where I am at without the support of my family and my coaches and teammates in Tiger Nation."

Aaron De La Torre is in his first year as head coach at Irving High, Hammad's school. His son, Alex De La Torre, is a sophomore (eligibility-wise) fullback at Texas.

Coach De La Torre has described his star lineman as a "punishing" blocker.

Hammad, who also secured offers from schools like Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Washington, California, Michigan State and a plethora of others, is rated as a four-star prospect, the No. 10 offensive guard nationally.
