Baylor vs Texas Tech Preview

Baylor vs Texas Tech Preview

The Bears having lost three games in a row come how licking their wounds from an unsuccessful road trip and find the Red Raiders waiting for them in Waco.

Two months ago almost to the day, the Bears rode into Lubbock, Texas and destroyed the Red Raiders 82-48. Those were good times in Waco, with the Bears beating Texas the game before. The good times are lacking right now for the Bears with three losses in a row.

The Red Raiders are a team still in transition. They aren't good offensively or defensively. They don't shoot the ball well (46.9% effective shooting percentage, 234th in the country). They are allowing a Big 12 worst 69.3 points per game in Big 12 play. They are the 2nd worst rebounding team in the Big 12. They commit a league high 14.9 turnovers per game in league play. Texas Tech is just 2-7 in league play and has lost 7 of their last 8 games.

NCAA Basketball Stats

The Red Raiders run out a lot of players, with 10 players receiving over 10 minutes, but not one player is over26 minutes. Their best player comes off the bench for them and is one of the more productive 6th men in the country. Jaye Crockett is their only player averaging more than 10 points per game, and is their leading rebounder as well at 7.4 per game.

Crockett was the only player in the first matchup that scored over 8 points in the 34 point loss to the Bears. The Red Raiders shot just 30.5% from the field and were outscored from the free throw line by 7 points. The Bears came out and shot 53.6% from the field and hit on all cylinders.

Keys to the Game:

College Basketball

-Shake off the bad loss – The Bears are coming off a heart breaking loss, losing in overtime to the Cowboys. A gut-punching loss like that has the chance to change a team good or bad. This is the first chance to see how the Bears respond to that loss.

-Keep attacking – In Lubbock, the Bears attacked from the start. They only attempted 14 three-pointers, and went to the foul line 22 times. They scored 18 points in the paint and 13 points off of turnovers. Baylor has to be aggressive and take the game to the Red Raiders.

-Not a 1-man show – The Bears tend to rely too heavily on Pierre Jackson to create not only for the team but for himself on the bulk of plays. Baylor needs to have other players show up and take some of that pressure off of Jackson. Isaiah Austin and Cory Jefferson are the two prime candidates to take that load off of Jackson.

Predictions:

KenPom – Bears win 84-60 (97% chance for win)

Massey – Bears win 80-61 (96% chance for win)

BearsIllustrated.com – Bears win 78-61

This is a game the Bears need to win and dominate to lick their wounds. They have three losses in a row, and led in the second half in each game, the last loss being the toughest losing in overtime on a last second shot. The Bears are a much better team than Tech, and have done a good job against the lower level teams this year.
