Position reviews are fun. They are a staple of the time killing summer time between spring practice and fall camp. But is there a better way? Yes, the basic look at the starter and the backups and maybe take a look at the commitments for the future can give you a basic idea about what that position has to offer.

We here at BearsIllustrated want to give you more than the basics, so we are going to be unveiling a deeper look at the positions. So starting later this week, we will be going position by position and grading out the following areas. We will look at the strength of the current starters or starters. We will analyze the quality of proven depth and the long-term depth of having good balance in the classes represented. Finally, we will grade and analyze not only the future outlook of the position next year, but the long-term outlook of 3-5 years down the road.

Current Grade (1-10) – This is the grade for the current starters, and their proven performance so far in their careers.

Depth Grade (1-10) – This looks at the backup options and how qualified they are. More projection is put here, as depth is usually less experienced.

Class Balance (1-10) – Are the players in the group in different classes? Does the roster reflect Freshman all the way though Senior players, or is it all loaded from one recruiting class?

Next Year (1-10) – What could this position look like next year, and should there be a returning starter or great options for future success.

3-5 Years (1-5) – Do the Bears have young talent at the position, or talent committed to keep strenght building at that spot.

Importance (1-5) – How key is this position to the success of the football team. Pretty much bonus points for more important positions.

This should give us a clearer look of the strengths of the Bears, but also how the Baylor staff recruits and plans out their roster. Continue to check back throughout the Summer for more details and updates on each of the positions for the Bears, as we begin with the lowest graded position and go through till we find the best!
