By the time you read this, Baylor’s annual Meet the Bears event will likely be complete. However if you are in Waco for the event, consider staying a little longer for Baylor women’s soccer’s similar Meet the Bear scrimmage and autograph session.
Baylor’s annual media day took place on Tuesday afternoon, and plenty of news came out of the opening day of camp. I was personally on hand for full coverage of the event.
Some bad news out of camp on Friday: senior wide receiver Clay Fuller broke his clavicle and will miss the first six to eight weeks of the season. Though tough for Baylor, he should be back for conference play.
In basketball recruiting news, Baylor picked up a Junior College commitment from Australian 7-footer Joseph Acuil. The Aussie will be in the class of 2015. Junior College recruiting analyst Brad Winton commented Brad Winton commented that Acuil is long and has a nice jumper for his size. He will be a welcome addition for a frontcourt that lacks size.
Finally, former Baylor star Ahmad Dixon played in his first NFL preseason game for the Dallas Cowboyson Thursday, to rave reviews. The former All-American led the game with 12 tackles, including 11 solo tackles and one for loss. His former teammates loved what they saw.
Despite it still being summer, it was a big week in Baylor athletics. Baylor football kicked off fall camp with media day on Tuesday, which meant plenty of news came out of Waco. The week also featured a surprise Baylor JuCo commitment, and some exciting Bears Illustrated news.
