The Baylor Bears swept the number 5 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday in their final conference home series of the regular season.
After a two hour rain delay, the
Baylor
Bears came out and took game 3 against the
Nebraska
Cornhuskers, 12-2. Jeff Mandel pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 2. But the big story was probably the power generated by the Baylor bats. Saturday's matchup showcased some power at the plate from the Baylor lineup, and Sunday was no different. Both Kevin Russo and Zach Dillon hit homeruns as the Bears cruised to a 12-2 victory, concluding the final conference homestand for the Bears.
The Bears return to action on Tuesday against Dallas Baptist University before concluding their regular season at
Kansas State
May 19th-21st.
SATURDAY'S NOTES:
Senior Mike Pankratz hasn't done it often, but on Saturday night he came up big for the
Baylor
Bears. Pankratz hit a 2-run homerun to right-center field giving the Bears a lead they would never surrender.
Chase Gerdes
added another blast as the Bears took game 2 and assured themselves of a series win against the 5th ranked
Nebraska
Cornhuskers.
Cory VanAllen, who had trouble with his control early, pitched 7 strong innings giving up only 4 hits and one run. VanAllen pitched his way out of several tough spots, most importantly inducing a 2 out bases loaded flyout in the top of the 7th inning. Tim Matthews came in to finish the game allowing 2 hits in 2 innings and recording 2 strikeouts.
