Lester Ward Jr: Still in the Fold?

Lester Ward Jr: Still in the Fold?

In early August, Lester Ward Jr. decided that Baylor was the right place for him to play his college football. Since then, an injury to his leg and a coaching change at Baylor University has occurred. Has this had an impact on Ward Jr.'s commitment to Baylor? Come in to find out some of the things he says about it all only inside.

The 6-3 200 pound wide receiver sports offers from UCLA, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, and TCU. But Baylor was the choice for Lester Ward Jr. At least it was back in August. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with the talented prep athlete to get his thoughts on his injury, the coaching change at Baylor, and his plans for the future.

"I have to say that out of all the season I have played football, this has been the most unique. I am grateful for the injury. I am not happy about getting hurt, but I was happy to learn things about myself. I think it gave me a chance to learn about character."

Ward suffered a leg injury that caused him to be sidelined for much of the season. However, Ward explains he gained valuable lessons from his injury.

"Life is more off the field than on the field. I learned to be a better person. I learned to seek the Lord more than I had been. I pulled my hamstring, and the Lord blessed me because I really shouldn't have been able to play. When I came back I played my best."

With Art Briles named the new head coach of the Baylor Bears, surplanting Guy Morriss, Ward had this to say about his commitment.

"I haven't had a chance to talk with anyone yet. Coach Briles' character is up to par, and I haven't heard anyone ever say anything negative about him. He is a person of integrity, and I am excited to play for him."

So is Lester Ward Jr still committed to Baylor?

"Right now, at the moment, I don't know what's going on there. I have to kind of watch and see the new coaches and see what happens."

As far as visits are concerned, Ward is planning on being at Baylor University in January and did not talk about visiting any other school.
