This 6-5 225 linebacker from Waxahachie, Texas was once committed to Baylor University. BearsIllustrated.com caught up with him to get the latest.

"I am going to say that I am back open. I want to make a decision after I take all my visits. I want to make sure I am making the right decision."

The dominating defensive playmaker had 86 tackles on the season, 15 sacks, and 24 tackles for loss. While linebacker is his true position, the position most schools are recruiting him at, he admits he likes putting his hand in the dirt to rush the quarterback.

Earlier this year, Gary Mason committed to the Baylor Bears, however, he is looking around to make sure he makes the right choice. Schools such as Kansas, New Mexico, and UTEP are serious contenders now. So where does Baylor stand now?

"I am just looking around. Coach Montgomery and Coach Norwood are good people, and I know they just got there."

Mason is fully qualified, and is looking forward to playing basketball in the spring semester.

When it comes time to make a decision, Mason explains that one factor stands out among the rest.

"The main factor is the school and academics."

UTEP recently had an in-home visit with Mason, and the talented prep athlete has a busy schedule ahead. He will be taking visits to Kansas, Lousiana-Lafayette, and Baylor before February 6th's signing day.
