He holds scholarship offers from Baylor, Kansas, UTEP, and New Mexico. At one time this Waxahachie defensive end committed to the Baylor Bears. Recently, Gary Mason Jr. took a trip to Waco to meet the new head coach of the Baylor Bears and the rest of the staff.

"Coach Briles was real calm. He was just explaining to me how much he wanted me to play for the Bears. The staff has come together pretty fast. I feel like they are all good coaches."

Mason had the opportunity to talk defense with Baylor's new defensive coordinator, Brian Norwood.

"He just told me that he wanted the opportunity to coach me. The 4-3 is what I played in high school, so it really isn't that big of a change."

The Waxahachie high school standout explains that he has narrowed his choices down to two schools; Kansas and Baylor. He talks about what he likes about Kansas.

"Coach tells me about the situation they are in. They have a senior defensive end, and they want me. They tell me I am what they are missing."

With his recent visit to Baylor, Mason discusses his trip and where he is leaning.

"My host was Matt Singletary. I enkoyed hanging out with the other players. At first, I was leaning toward Kansas, but after my visit I am leaning more towards Baylor."

Mason explains that he will likely keep his announcement on where he will be playing his college football a secret until signing day; a decision that he feels he needs more time in making. However, Mason does know what he is looking for in a school and how he intends on spending his freshman year.

"I don't want to go to far from home. I don't mind getting out of Texas, just not too far. After that, I will look at academics. As far as redshirting, I will probably redshirt to learn the plays and to add more weight."
