Bears Win Again, Playing for NIT Championship

The Baylor Bears have been hot since the start of the Big XII Tournament. That didn't change Tuesday night in New York City as they took on San Diego State.

Any time you reach the Final Four of a tournament, the opponent you are playing is bound to be on a fairly nice run. The problem for the San Diego State Aztecs is that they ran into a Baylor Bear team whose run is more impressive than any other team in the NIT. In the last few weeks, Baylor has knocked off Kansas, Texas, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Nebraska and now - San Diego State.

The first half of Tuesday night's 76-62 victory in Madison Square Garden in New York City over the #1 seed Aztecs made it seem like the game would be close throughout. Despite the hot shooting of senior guard Curtis Jerrells, 19 points in the first half, the Aztecs kept it within 1 point off their own hot shooting, nailing multiple 3 pointers over the Baylor zone.

In the second half, the perimeter defenders of Baylor, including Lacedarius Dunn and Kevin Rogers on the wings of the zone, refused to let San Diego State get off easy shots. The result was a double digit victory for Baylor as Dunn picked up where Jerrells left off nailing multiple 3 pointers to give the Bears a cushion and ultimately a comfortable victory.
