Bakari Turner is one of two members of Baylor’s newest signing class joining Perry Jones. Turner, a 3-star combo guard, from Plano West High School talked about his decision to sign with Baylor.

“To me, it is just another step in life. It is a big accomplishment to me. For me personally, as well as my family. I am really thankful for this.”

Turner brings an intensity level that sometimes is nowhere to be found in high school basketball level, and a skill set that may sometimes not get enough credit it deserves. Big enough to play the 3-guard, Turner may be best suited at the 2 position, but either way, his ability to jab-step, and drain a pull up jumper is what Turner brings to the court. As far as his decision to head to Baylor?

“The thing about Baylor is it is just like a family. The whole environment. The first time I was down there, I just felt like I was with family. They make you feel welcomed, and you don’t feel out of place or distant. You know that they care.”

The future Baylor guard explains that he is familiar with several current Baylor players, and looks forward to running the floor with several of them.

“Nolan Dennis, I have been to a couple of camps with him, so I am looking forward to playing with him. As well as Givon Crump, we had a chance to talk and hang out, and I am really looking forwad to playing with him. And if Lacedarius [Baylor junior guard Lacedarius Dunn] is still there, I don’t know if he will still be there, I would like playing with him, of course.”

“The one thing I am going to work on is my half-court game. Bringing the ball down, you know, I can get to the rim, but I am going to work on more ball-handling, and working on more moves.”

The one thing that every analyst will not about Turner is his intensity level, and his willingness to play hard the entire game without taking plays off. Turner talks about his energy on the court.

“I think it is very important. One, you never know who is watching you. You never know who is in the stands. It could be an NBA scout or anyone. So, I just go hard. I try and give it my all. Every game, I won’t take off, I just play hard.”

Turner expects to graduate in June, and will be following Baylor’s basketball season the rest of the way.

“I will be following Baylor as well as doing what I need to do. But, yeah, I will be watching them.”
