Building the Wall
"We had a really great season. We lost in the second round of playoffs to Southlake which is pretty tough, especially in Cowboy Stadium, but it was an epic game; it took two overtimes to finish it off… it's just one of those things. It feels like Allen has never beaten Southlake; they've beat us four years in a row; they always knock us out of the playoffs. I had I good season too. I definitely played better this year than I did last year."
Burleson's performance this season may have been above the expectations of his soon-to-be Baylor coaches; he told us that they're currently unsure as to whether or not he'll be redshirted as well as where on the line he might play.
"Coach Clements was telling me that they weren't really sure exactly where they would play me; they might put me at tackle… but I could also play guard. They said, for right now, I'm going to be a redshirt, but I was also told not expect to remain a redshirt, expect to play."
Something that Burleson IS sure about is his plan for the offseason.
"The only sport I'll be doing in the offseason would be powerlifting. As far as getting ready for going up to Baylor, I've been lifting four times a week, working on a plan my high school O-Line coach gave me, and conditioning. I've also been working out with all my teammates."
Size, strength, and skill are important, but there are two factors that determine the success of an athlete in any arena; a desire to compete and heart for the game. Burleson doesn't seem to be lacking in either area.
"I've been wanting to play in the Big 12 since I was a baby basically. I mean, what more could you ask for, playing D-1 football in the Big 12?"
