Baylor Wide Receiver David Gettis realized his dream on Saturday after being drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the NFL Draft.
Last year's draft saw
Baylor
offensive tackle Jason Smith go 2nd overall in the NFL Draft to the St. Louis Rams. On Friday, Baylor Center J.D. Walton heard his name called after the Denver Broncos selected him in the 3rd Round of this year's NFL Draft. On Saturday, Baylor wide receiver David Gettis took one more step towards his dream of playing in the NFL after being drafted by the Carolina Panthers.
Gettis was a 4 star recruit coming out of Los Angeles Dorsey High School in California. Best knows for his track-speed, Gettis was selected to play in the US Army All_American Game his senior year in high school. His announcement of his college destination, made live during the game, shocked most after choosing Baylor over a number of other teams that had extended offers.
A 2-sport athlete, track and football, Gettis always maintained that he was always a football player first and foremost. He decided to focus on football after his freshman season at Baylor.
Gettis brings a 6-3 215 frame to the Panthers. Quick off the line of scrimmage, Gettis has top end speed. He was recorded at a 4.47 forty time in the NFL Combine this season, and has also been recorded more recently at 4.43.
The Baylor receiver has returned kickoffs at the collegiate level somewhat successfully, but will likely make his mark as a big play threat on offense.
